Fundamentals of Bladesmithing & Knife Making

Acquire the fundamental techniques of blacksmithing through a focus on bladesmithing and knife making. Class balances project planning and forge time, with the opportunity to create blades from a variety of materials including horseshoes, railroad spikes and steel billets. Use hammer and anvil to forge your knife, harden and temper, then shape and hone the knife into a sharpened tool. Additionally, you will complete your knife with handle materials.

Basic Blacksmithing

Develop super powers and bend steel with your hands using skills from one of the oldest trades. Basic Blacksmithing introduces you to the art and science of forging and shaping metals as a hobby or a future career. This class will cover safety, equipment, and techniques for your first blacksmithing projects, whether artistic or practical, and provide guidance on setting up your own blacksmith shop. (No textbook required).

Intermediate Blacksmithing

In this course, you will take a deeper look into the work of a blacksmith, while continuing to build on the basic techniques you previously learned. Class introduces creating and managing a solid fuel forge, i.e. coal, as an alternative for projects. Plus, you will build your shop inventory by making your own tools and create jigs to make replication of products easier. If you are not familiar with forging, please complete the Basic Blacksmithing class before taking this one.
