The Smiths of Cash Forge
M. Cash McGee
I got my start in blacksmithing at the age of nine, working with my uncle in the hollers of Poplar Camp, VA. Alongside my uncle, I learned the skills of a farrier. I continued my farrier and blacksmith work on my family farm in Frederick County, MD into the mid-90's. I made my first knife out of an old farrier's rasp when I was 14 years old. As I continued on this path of blacksmithing, I pursued training in fabrication and welding, and in the late 90's, I apprenticed for two years as a bladesmith. In 2010, I put smithing on the back burner and attempted over the years, half-heartedly, to rekindle the fire. In January 2023, at the age of 53, I found my motivation and I made the commitment to restart the fire and open my forge up again.
I am a blacksmith who makes blades and I have a passion for the craft and sharing it with others as it was shared with me.

I have been working with Cash for the past 15 years, helping and assisting him with a multitude of different projects from general construction, to operating a 53-foot boom lift for rigging and installing. For the past 3 years, I have been working in the forge, growing, and learning the trade, along with taking courses in welding, fabricating, and blacksmithing at the local community college on his encouragement. In 2023, when the forge was reopened, he put a hammer in my hand and now I am forging, welding, fabricating, and growing Cash Forge.
